Starting my contents page

Beginning my contents page I have decided on keeping the same bold/eroded font as used on my front cover, as well as the colouring of green orange and yellow themes.
This is because I want to stick with and expand on the original theme as shown on the cover, this way it is recognizable/iconic.
Instead of keeping with the slogan "All you need!" as shown on the cover I have decided to place something different on the contents so that not all is the same as the cover. I have used "Your very own guide through the build up to GCSE's!" so that when I start creating the main text for the contents page I can refer to this, I also thought it was a poignant subject to add as GCSE's are what my targeted audience age are driving towards.

Progress on my front cover...

Similarly to my masthead I have edited the anchorage which uses the same font, to create a sharper more defined image. I have also changed one article idea from 'Popular? Try the BFF test' to 'New friends? Try the BBF test.' As I believe it works and sounds better.

I have chosen a suitable price £1.00, and created a sign for this, which is clear to read and is placed well on the front cover.
I have also taken the image of a barcode and placed it in the corner of the magazine as this is one of the main/ obvious points for a front cover.

Even though I have not yet chosen and created my own photography for the cover, I have taken this image from the internet as an example as to what I would like my image to be like. It is well lighted with a good background, and the main image as a medium close up shot, which is posed and has eye contact.

Eye level = finally, an eye level shot is used to show full focus on the subject/ character, it can be effective to show a build of tension between two characters in a conversation, for example across a table. The face is placed in the middle of the shot.

High angle shot = a high angle shot, similarly to a birds eye shot is used to create the idea of superior and inferior figures, this one however has more focus on the face and upper torso in order to see the facial expression of the subject, showing their emotion.

Birds eye view = very high angled shot which over looks the whole of the subject, this can make the subject look inferior which allows the effect of the viewers to feel superior and in power over the shot. It can also be used to show the full surrounding and setting of the shot, to show the where about's of the subject.

Low shot = A low shot can have similar effects as a worms eye shot, in that it can promote superiority. However, this low shot can show full expression posed on the subjects face, and can exaggerate their anger, happiness etc.

Canted = By changing the angle of the shot in this way during a film may be effective by showing, dizziness, distortion, unease, frantic action, intoxication, madness, etc.

Worms eye view = this shot is taken from the floor to show most of the torso, it is used to create an effect of superiority. If viewing this on a magazine cover or at a scene in a movie the audience may feel inferior to this figure, and creates the image of great importance, power and status for this person.

Angles

Extreme close up = whole shot is overtaken up by the head, with the eyes as the most common centre point of shot, no background surroundings can be seen.

Close up = face is centre of shot, most of shot is taken up by the head and tops of shoulders, very little surroundings viewed behind subject.

Medium close up = from the upper arm/ shoulders upwards, full focus on upper torso, subject in centre of shot, little surroundings visible.

Medium shot = from the stomach/chest upwards, subject centre of shot, little surroundings visible. I believe this type of shot may be the best suited for the front cover of my school magazine, as long as the background is suitable and the lighting is correct. This example is to dark and has a boring unappealing background to use for the front cover of the magazine.

Medium long shot = Cuts of lower torso, subject center of the shot from waist upwards. Subject takes up most of shot with some background surroundings visible.

Long shot = whole body of the subject takes up main space of the shot, bottom and top of photo end with the feet and head of the subject, allowing some of the surroundings to be viewed in the background.

Extreme long shot = whole body placed in the middle of the shot, with lots of excess space given around the subject to show full surroundings as well as the subject.

Progress on my front cover...

I have played around with different ideas of anchorage text to use, in order to attract around a 12 year old who is starting secondary school, by using 'special edition' it exaggerates the fact it is specialised for those 'starting school.' I have highlighted 'special' in black as a splash colour, so it stands out from all other writing on the page allowing the readers to feel this is an important issue and not one to miss out on.
I have also decided on 'Top 10 homework tips' as one of my main articles and one of the main uses of anchorage text. I believe this is a good topic to focus on as those starting secondary school may want the best start possible and need all the advise they can get, for the big step up from Primary to Secondary.

Another big part of starting a new school would be making new friends, this is a big part of school for everyone. Therefore making a popularity/ best friend test may allow pupils to become interested on how to make as many new friends as possible.

Before...
After...

This is my finished mast head, I have used 'Paint' to fill in any leaked splashes of green within the title in white pencil, to avoid a messy, sloppy, pix-elated look in order to create a more professional and bold masthead, which may be more eye catching.

I have decided to use the same styled font as this for most of my anchorage text, so this means I will be editing all words like this in order to create an all round professional look.

Planning my school magazine
This is my finished result of my main title, I have decided on a green theme with splash colours of some orange and yellow, I have chosen this in order to attract a neutral gender audience for boys and girls around the age of 11 to 12 year old's starting year 7.
I have decided on a bold jagged edged font associating with paper to link with the school theme.
My slogen 'All you need' is used to attract secondry school beginners who may be worried about starting a new shcool, meaning that this magazine may give them comfort and reasurance, with helpful tips to get them started in the best way possible.
To improve the main title I will be using an editing software such as 'paint' to colour in all splashes of green inside the title with white to give a proffesional and sharp look.
